The new year brings a slew of new events for car lovers in Orange County and Southern California. Here are a few of the favorites from the Beach Boulevard of Cars in Huntington Beach.
Held every Saturday, whether it rains or shines, South OC Cars and Coffee showcases between 1000 and 3000 classic, muscle, sports, and exotic cars and motorcycles every Saturday at the Outlets at San Clemente. The event is free, and no registration is needed to display your favorite ride, but be sure to follow the posted rules, such as driving quietly and slowly on the streets and local freeways.
The Main Street Classic Car Show, the longest-running car show in Orange County, revs up every Friday in downtown Garden Grove. Enjoy dinner at one of the many eateries lining the street or try one of the street vendors selling not only edibles but also unique products.
On March 30, HotRods ‘N Helos puts over 200 hot rods and classic cars, as well as helicopters, into a coastal setting right here in Huntington Beach. The event benefits the Huntington Beach Police Officers Foundation, which is dedicated to making law enforcement more effective and providing support to the law enforcement community when death, serious injury, or catastrophic event occurs.
The San Marino Motor Classic elevates the weekend of August 23-24 with the Automotive Fine Arts Society Art Show with works from 12 renowned automotive artists, the Symphony of Cars Gala with the Legends of Swing Orchestra, and the Motor Classic itself, which presents over a century of cars and food from several food trucks at Lacy Park. The proceeds benefit several local charities.
On May 4, the Classic Chevys of Southern California holds its 42nd Annual Car Show. As the name implies, this event emphasizes Chevrolet vehicles from 1955 to 1957 but also includes hot rods, customs, classics, and muscle cars from other brands. Proceeds benefit the San Antonio Boys Home in Chatsworth, where the event is also held.
The longest-running indoor car show in the world returns on January 31 to February 2 as the 75th Anniversary Grand National Roadster Show at the Pomona Fairplex. Over 500 show cars are expected to compete for prizes, plus another 400 to 800 more will arrive each day for the 19th Annual Grand Daddy Drive-In.
The two top auto shows in our area are the OC Auto Show at the Anaheim Convention Center and the LA Auto Show at the Los Angeles Convention Center, both held in the fall. The former is more convenient to Orange County residents but also shows fewer cars and has fewer test rides.
On the other hand, the LA Auto Show is one of the 4 major shows in the county, with the 2024 versions showcasing over 1,000 vehicles in over a million square feet of space. Major automakers often host North American and global debuts of the latest models with concept cars pushing tech boundaries.
